The heavy tank battalion, s.Pz.Abt.507 (schwere Panzer-Abteilung 507), was created on 23 September 1943 in the Vienna area. It was completely equipped with mighty Tiger I tanks before the unit deployed into the cauldron of combat on the Eastern Front, including hard battles at Tarnapol, Vitebsk and Narev, in early 1944. By March 1944, the unit's Tiger Is were fighting in the Lemberg area of southern Poland. This battalion, like every other s.Pz.Abt., could field 45 Tiger tanks when fully equipped. The tanks were assigned to three companies of 14 vehicles each, with three more tanks in the HQ. A new 1/72 scale model from Dragon Armor depicts a Mid-Production Tiger from s.Pz.Abt.507 as it appeared while the battalion was stationed in Poland. The model's finished in an attractive two-color camouflage paint scheme that mimics to some degree the stripes of a tiger. Of special note is the realistically applied Zimmerit coating, which attains the standards achieved by master modelers.
